Milton H. Tolman – Lake Hopatcong, NJ, previously of Naples, Florida.
Milton H. Tolman passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on March 23, 2022.
Milt, as his friends called him, was born on April 8, 1930 to Lionel and Rita Tolman in Greeley, Colorado.
He attended the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. This is where he met his first wife Betty Jean Smith with whom he had 2 children. Upon graduating the Naval Academy in 1953 with a Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Milton attended Submarine School in New London, CT and the Naval War College in Newport, RI. He served as a Lieutenant Commander on board the USS Angler SSK 240 patrolling Northern Europe and the Atlantic.
After completing his military service, Milt went to work using his Engineering Degree in the Steam Turbine and Pump field, which he enjoyed. He finished his career as Director of Asia and Pacific for Ingersoll Dresser Pump Division.
Shortly after Milt retired, he married his current wife, Ilona. They enjoyed traveling the world to exotic places such as Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and all over Europe. They then built their life in Naples, Florida for the next 23 years. Recently, they made the decision that they wanted to be close to their family and moved in with their daughter and grandson. Milt kept saying “We are the only people that move north for the winter.”
Milt lived a long and wonderful life. He brought joy and love to all that knew him. He is leaving a void in our hearts and will be greatly missed.
Milton is survived by his wife of 24 years, Ilona Tolman (Stark). His son, Brook Tolman and his wife Kim of College Station, TX. His daughter Lee Tolman of the Netherlands. His stepdaughter, Claudia Dorman and grandson, Hunter of Lake Hopatcong. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
