We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our sweet mother Colleen Medved Snelson 91, of Springville Utah who left us and earned her wings on Monday, October 2, 2023, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Colleen Medved Snelson was born March 29, 1932 to Jack and Mary Strakey Medved in Mapleton Utah. Colleen and her identical twin Connie were born two months premature at their home in Mapleton Utah.

She grew up on the family farm in Mapleton. This was a loving home where many happy memories were made. Colleen talked often of her Mamma and Pappa, as she affectionately called her parents. She talked of the good food Mamma always cooked and of working alongside Pappa on the farm. Living on a farm, she learned how to work hard. Even though the twins were girls, they were expected to help with the farm chores. They were up early before school to complete whatever chore was waiting for them.

Colleen attended elementary school in the old two-story building that was on main street in Mapleton. She attended junior high and high school in Springville. After high school graduation Colleen went to college at Utah Technical College and then got a job as a medical secretary at Utah Valley Hospital.

Colleen married Charles Lee Snelson on March 9, 1951. Lee was currently serving in the US Navy and was home on leave so they decided to get married. They were later sealed in the Provo Utah Temple on April 12, 1990.

Colleen had a deep and lasting testimony of the Savior and his restored gospel and the power of prayer. She had many Church callings, including Primary and Relief Society. She loved to attend the temple and did so every week for many years.

Colleen loved to be outside working in her yard. She was still mowing her lawn and taking care of her small garden until a few months prior to her death, when she became so ill, she could no longer do it.

She enjoyed going to plays with friends, playing her organ and camping. She loved and adored her family. She loved being a mother and grandmother and in November of 2022, she became a great-great grandmother.

Colleen was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lee Snelson, parents, brothers, Frank Gerald Medved, Walter Medved, Jacob Medved, Mathew Medved, Andrew William Medved, Anthony Medved, Fred Medved, her sister, Josephine Ellen Killpatrick, a daughter-in-law Vickie Ostler Snelson, and a great-grandson Cole Wyatt David Perkins. She is survived by her twin sister Connie Dalton of Springville Utah, Children Cathy Marshall (Robert) of Springville, Kayelynn Adamson (David) of Elk Ridge, Terry Snelson (Danyel) of Springville, Tammy Donaldson (Dave) of Santaquin. Twelve grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren with another one due in December, and one great-great grandchild.

Special thanks to her granddaughter Kirstynn Snelson who lovingly shared her CNA experience to help us take care of mom and to help us know what we needed to do and how to do it. We would also like to thank the Hospice nurses, McKenna, Jason, Spencer, and Angie, who took care of our mother with love and compassion.
